Robert Penn

I am a visual storyteller who loves technology.

Filmmaker/Writer Robert Penn has worked as a producer, director, camera operator, director of photography and editor for several organizations, including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, New York Public Library, City Lore, Incorporated, American Ballet Theater, Chimusic, Inc., N*E*L Productions and Evidence, A Dance Company.

Robert Penn has also produced and directed his own documentaries.  One of them, Connecting Cultures, was screened at the 2003 Dance Camera West film festival.  Another, Evidence of Who We Are, was broadcast on MetroARTS 13, the cable division of PBS Thirteen, New York City, in March 2002.

Robert Penn writes screenplays that consider the history and culture of Africa and African-Americans. He also creates films that reflect upon mainstream U. S. socio-political realities.  He shoots digital video, repurposes public domain footage and then edits clips from both into digital films for theatrical projection and gallery installation. One of Robert's screenplay, Sahara Son, was considered for the 2008 Sundance Screenwriters Program.
